Bill C-18, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (impaired driving causing death and other matters). Passed June 15, 2000. Assented June 29, 2000.
Proposed by Canada's Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada on June 30, 2000, this bill would amend Canada's criminal code to: "1. increase the maximum penalty for impaired driving causing death from 14 years to life imprisonment and 2. allow police to seek a warrant to obtain a blood sample from an unconscious driver they believe to be drug impaired and involved in a collision where there was injury or death".
