List of e-Bulletins/Listservs

Mailing lists (or listservs) are easy and effective ways of using internet email to communicate with others. Organized around a particular topic, they allow subscribers to take part in group discussions, pose questions, offer advice or quickly disseminate time-sensitive information to other individuals with the same interest. Participation can be local or worldwide. Below are a number of mailing lists and email bulletins useful to those working (or interested) in health promotion, addictions and prevention of alcohol-related problems. Please contact us to suggest additions to this list.

ADDICT-L
Provides an information exchange network for individuals interested in researching, educating or recovering from a variety of addictions. Intended primarily for "academic and scholarly discussion" of addiction-related topics. Send email to Listserv@Kentvm.kent.edu.

ADD_MED
Addiction medicine mailing list. Permission to join is required. Send email to listser@maelstrom.stjohns.edu.

APOLNET-L
The purpose of this listserv it to promote informed discussion about alcohol-related policy and programming issues in Ontario/Canada. It has been created for professionals in public health, substance abuse, injury prevention and policy development. It is an OPEN list which means that anyone interested in alcohol policy in Ontario/Canada, including members of the general public, is welcome to join. Center for Media Literacy Email Bulletin
Subscribers to this free list hosted by the US Center for Media Literacy receive short, occasional e-mail on resources, services and news regarding media literacy, consistent with their expressed interests (eg. CCSA's Addiction News Daily
This is a collection of news stories about addiction and the use or misuse of alcohol and illicit drugs. The stories are chosen for their potential interest to Canadians and are of national significance. They may have implications for policy development in Canada, highlight a new or emerging trend, or report on international policy, programs, initiatives or research. Stories about gambling or smoking are included where there is significant content or overlap with alcohol and illicit drug use or misuse. The Daily
Used for release of statistical data and publications produced by Statistics Canada. Provides highlights of newly released data with source information for more detailed facts, contains weekly and monthly schedules of upcoming major news releases and announces new non-print products and new services. DRUGABUS
List for discussion of drug abuse education, information, and research. Monitored by the Office of Substance Abuse Studies at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. To subscribe, e-mail LISTSERV@LIST.AB.UMD.EDU.

Maintained by the U.S. Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention to disseminate news stories related to alcohol and other drug prevention in higher education. The HECNews list is an announcement list to which HEC staff regularly send news items (8-12 messages per week). The HECNews Digest is a weekly or semi-weekly compilation of the news items sent to the HECNews list. Membership is free and open to anyone interested in the topic. Ontario Health Promotion E-mail (OHPE) Bulletin
Free and open to anyone with an interest in news, information, and resources related to health promotion in Ontario. Format includes bi-weekly features and resources, with weekly announcements and job postings. To join, complete the on-line form. SUBABUSE
American email list hosted by Join Together for the purpose of supporting community organizations working to prevent and treat substance abuse. Discussions about substance abuse issues by and for people working in the field.
