Presenter - Charmaine Spencer

Charmaine Spencer is a gerontologist and Adjunct Professor in Vulnerable Populations. She has been a staff member of Simon Fraser University’s Gerontology Research Centre since 1991.

Working closely with community agencies that serve seniors, Charmaine's research and community efforts focus on substance use and aging, as well as victimization and discrimination in later life.

Charmaine has been involved in two major national/ regional projects on this emerging social issue of seniors and alcohol: Seeking Solutions (2000-2003) and Project SEAGULL (Seniors Education on Alcohol: Guidelines for Use in Later Life) (2005-2008). Her research interests include policy development, trends in drinking-related problems and community-based prevention and support initiatives for older adults.
