Dr. Marvin Krank, Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia will be discussing "The Effects of Alcohol Advertisement on Youth: Changes in Cognitive Processes Associated with High Risk Drinking".
Dr. Marvin Krank has recently been appointed as the Dean of Graduate Studies and Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. Previously, Dr. Krank was Head of Psychology at Mount Allison University and taught at Memorial University of Newfoundland and the University of Toronto. Dr. Krank has a Ph.D. in Psychology with an active research program focusing on the psychological determinants of drug use and drug effects including seminal work on drug tolerance and withdrawal. Dr. Krank currently leads the Project on Adolescent Trajectories and Health (PATH), a longitudinal research project on the social and cognitive determinants of risk-taking behaviours and their health outcomes in youth.
Nancy Miller, Social Marketing Practitioner with Miller Neighbour & Associates will be discussing "Risky Drinking and Social Marketing".
Nancy Miller is a social marketing practitioner with over 20 years experience researching, implementing and evaluating programs with the goal of changing health and issue-related behaviour. She is a strategist and writer, and designs concepts, community programs and social marketing campaigns for government agencies and not-for-profit organizations.
Diane Buhler, Executive Director of Parent Action on Drugs, will be discussing the report from "Risky Drinking – The Un-Conference" held in June 2005.
Diane Buhler is the executive director of Parent Action on Drugs (PAD) based in Toronto. PAD's mission is to address issues of substance use among youth through outreach, prevention, education, and parent support. PAD enhances the capacity of parents, youth and communities to promote an environment that encourages youth to make informed choices.
