Questionable Alcohol Advertisements
Youth are most attracted to advertisements that are humorous, include role models influential to youth, have animal characters, and use popular music. These types of alcohol ads have been shown to be the most influential among youth – making youth want to buy the alcoholic beverage (Krank et. al., 2005).
Responsible Alcohol Advertisements
Advertisements that describe the quality of the alcohol product are less appealing to youth; and as a result, less influential (Chen et al., 2005).
Alcohol Sponsorship
"While tobacco sponsorship of sporting and entertainment events is subject to restriction in many countries, includling Canada, alcohol promotion is facing increased scrutiny as well. The acceptance of funding from the alcohol industry, which most often requires the visible promotion of products produced or distributed by the company in question, comes with potentially serious consequences that should cause organizations and communities to proceed with caution."
