Guidelines
APN's Key Contacts Database was created to promote information exchange, networking and collaboration among groups and individuals active in alcohol policy and education initiatives. It is a free public service and is not intended for commercial purposes.
To ensure that our goal is met we have created the following guidelines for registrants and users of the database. If you encounter a technical problem or are unclear about any of the instructions, please feel free to contact us.
Guidelines for Registrants
- Use this Key Contacts Database to share with colleagues information on your professional interests and skills, as well as the many groups, programs, events and initiatives about which you would like to be contacted. Provide as much or as little information as you want.
- Please update your database profile on a regular basis to ensure the database contains the most current information. For example, if you have been promoted or have changed jobs recently, ensure your title and contact information are correct. We will be sending you periodic e-mail reminders to update your record. If you do not wish to receive these, or do not wish to continue your membership in the database, please delete your entry.
- As the Key Contacts Database can be searched by anyone on the Web, there should be NO expectations of confidentiality regarding the information you submit. If you are in doubt about whether or not you want your information widely accessible - please don't register in the database. For additional information please review APN's Privacy Policy.
- Please use clear language when completing the registration form and avoid using acronyms. To ensure there is no confusion, and that the information is correct, please review your profile before pressing the submit button. If you make a mistake, please feel free to edit your record.
- Although the Key Contacts Database was developed for networking purposes, it is up to individual members to determine how they wish to be contacted and how much time and effort they will devote to responding to database-generated requests for information and assistance. To avoid confusion or unreasonable expectations, please indicate limits on your availability. If you receive requests that you are unable to handle, either because they fall outside of your geographic area of service or because they are not within your mandate, please indicate this in your reply and review your database entry to avoid similar requests in future.
- APN has strict guidelines for how the information in the Key Contacts Database should be used. We do not expect registrants to become the targets of spammers. However, if you encounter a problem, please notify APN staff immediately.
- Finally, we would like to be able to evaluate the usefulness and impact of this Key Contacts Database. If you have a few minutes, please complete the confidential evaluation form (Coming Soon!). If you are pressed for time, just send us a quick e-mail letting us know how you've shared your skills and knowledge with others. Thanks for your feedback!
Guidelines for Users
- The Key Contacts Database can be searched by keyword and sorted by organization, location, last name and individual areas of expertise. Records are displayed in summary format. Click on the small image next to the Key Contact's name to display the full record. If this is your first time using the database, try browsing through the records to get a feeling for how the information is grouped and displayed. If you know who or what you are looking for, try using the keyword search.
- By registering in the Key Contacts Database, individual members have demonstrated a willingness to share their time and expertise with colleagues in the field. However, they are under no obligation to respond to inquiries for information or assistance, particularly if these fall outside of their mandated area of service. They are also under no obligation to respond within a specific timeframe, although we hope they will tell you, in a timely manner, if they can't fulfill your request.
- While we will do our utmost to ensure that the information in the Key Contacts Database is accurate and current, it is up to individual members to maintain and update their records. If you encounter out-of-date information or questionable entries, please contact us. We also cannot endorse the products, programs or services listed in the database. We encourage you to ask for references or copies of evaluation and research reports prior to purchasing or using any product or service listed here. For links to best practices, research publications, etc please see the Resources Section of the website.
- While the Key Contacts Database may be used by all those who visit the APOLNET website, it was not developed for commercial purposes. Information contained therein may only be used in accordance with the APOLNET Privacy Policy and the wishes and limits on availability of individual database members. More specifically, use of information in this database to generate mailing lists, electronic or otherwise, or for solicitation of any kind, is illegal and strictly prohibited.
- Finally, we would like to be able to evaluate the usefulness and impact of this service. If you have a few minutes, please complete the confidential evaluation form (Coming Soon!). If you are pressed for time, just send us a quick e-mail letting us know how you've shared your skills and knowledge with others. Thanks for your feedback!
