ARAPO Recognition Award - 2007-08

The ARAPO Recognition Award is presented in recognition of individuals and organizations that have made, and continue to make outstanding efforts to reduce the effect of alcohol promotion in Ontario.

At the annual Alcohol: No Ordinary Commodity Forum on March 28, 2008 the ARAPO Recognition Award was presented to two recipients. One award was given to the most outstanding individual and the other was awarded to the most outstanding organization.

The most outstanding individual is Filomena Ferraro, a York Catholic District School Board teacher and staff OSAID representative who is responsible for utilizing ARAPO resources in demystifying alcohol promotion messages. In addition to her work with our resources Ms. Ferraro also engaged her students to commit to a letter writing campaing to reduce the BAC from 0.08% to 0.05%.

The most outstanding organization award was presented to the Substance Abuse Action Committee (SAAC) of the Grey Bruce Health Unit. The SAAC has committed to working on issues of substance abuse in their community with a variety of different stakeholders from different backgrounds. ARAPO is pleased that the resources they provided have been utilized in harm reduction education and awareness initiatives for area youth of the Grey Bruce region.

The ARAPO Recognition Award Committee would also like to give an honorable mention to MADD Canada for their tireless work, for creating public responsibility messaging aimed at reducing impaired driving.

The Association to Reduce Alcohol Promotion in Ontario thanks all nominees for their submissions. Make sure to visit this page in May for the Terms of Reference and how to apply for the 2009 ARAPO Recognition Award.
